Conversation with a Homo sapien
For reasons unknown, the word Homo Sapein is used*
The best part about interacting with a dog, a cat, or a cow is the absence of any obdurate disposition. After interacting with a fellow Homo sapien, one may descry that the consciousness of the human brain is a temporal curse, given that the norms of social conventions are ever-increasing, making interactions more perplexing. The reasons for my introversion are deeply rooted in some of these instances. Now you might think this is very critical of me to point out that I do not want to hold a conversation with them, but rather it is the opposite, after a conversation with the fellow Homo sapien, they themselves develop an aversion towards me.
Once I had someone ask me, “What would be your dream destination?” Now, either this question is very deep, or my answer is too deep, or both, or none. I answer “Norway” as I picture myself on the International Space Station. The problem with answering ISS is not that it’s an unrealistic thought, but the fact that to answer ISS I should mend my laxity of pursuing engineering, physics, and progression towards US citizenship. But hey, I am just 25; I’d much rather blame it on Elon for not expediting these arrangements for a non-techy-techy.
My most detested question is “What do you want to become?” The ambiguity of the question is as pellucid as the answer that is favourable. Now you might think I have something obnoxious in my brain, like I want to become Iron Man or Spider-Man or something, which in part is true, but here we are talking about socially sanctioned pursuits, because we have well established that the fellow Homo sapien will drop the conversation if you do not give a cogent defense. But what is unrealistic and what is realistic is just a matter of perspective. Now I am confused, sort of sweating profusely as to how to answer this question. I panic, and I answer “A theoretical physicist”. Holy Molly! The Homo Sapien laughs and disgusts at the same time. They empathically soothe me and just say, “I meant a job or business if you have one in mind”. They now remove the ambiguity of the question asked previously. But I am mad now, because being should not have been quoted so loosely. I respect the Homo sapien for judging me harshly. Thank God I did not answer Iron Man. Had I answered so, I would keep wondering if they’d realize that practically, I am much closer to becoming Iron Man than a theoretical physicist.
The worst of all has to be “What’s one thing you would like to achieve in this lifetime?”. At this point, I am done. This question is shameless and deeply personal. I do not overthink now. I just answer “love” and “peace of mind”, instead of saying something realistic like a billion dollars. I assume that the Homo sapien is aware where these two pursuits lie on the scale of Ease of Attainability.
We are both happy now.
